Please join Marc Lapin, College Lands Conservationist, for a talk entitled "What kind of ancestor do you want to be? Lessons from Perennial Agriculture." What does agriculture have to do with our ways of thinking, healing, teaching, creating art, and engaging in sacred practices? What might our human ways of doing and organizing ourselves look like if we were to practice perennial, natural systems agriculture, rather than continuing growing the bulk of our foods by ripping apart the soil in annual-disturbance, plow-based cropping? How can we and our students merge discoveries in cosmology, quantum physics, evolutionary and ecosystem biology, systems science, and consciousness to imagine a “perennial turn†that can better shape our human ways of doing based on modern and ancient knowledges that teach of a Universe and Earth that are alive, co-creative, emergent, long-lasting, and diverse? What is needed for healthy minds, bodies and spirits in a world where many aspects of societies and ecosystems are breaking apart? Join Marc Lapin as he discusses approaches employed and lessons learned in four semesters of exploring such questions with students using community-connected learning and contemplative pedagogies.
